Japanese Sweets and Books for a Blissful Afternoon in Tokyo
MINATO-KU, TOKYO, JAPAN, October 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Shiba Park Hotel (operated by Shiba Park Hotel Co., Ltd.; Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Noriyoshi Tanaka), which opened in 1948, offers its “Blissful Afternoon Tea” year-round at The Dining restaurant on the first floor. Featuring sweets and savory dishes created by Chinese Cuisine Peking, Western Cuisine Primula, and Japanese Cuisine Hanasanshou, along with fragrant teas and the opportunity for guests to choose books from the hotel’s collection and enjoy them during their afternoon tea, this afternoon experience offers guests an opportunity to discover Japan’s distinctive food culture and aesthetic sensibility.
“Blissful Afternoon Tea” features sweets and savory dishes that showcase the techniques and creativity of Chinese Cuisine Peking, Western Cuisine Primula, and Japanese Cuisine Hanasanshou. A single tea stand brings together a selection of Chinese, Western, and Japanese dishes, allowing international guests to experience the diverse food culture that Japanese hotels have cultivated over many years, all in one setting. From the interplay of sweet and savory flavors to delicate presentation and the use of seasonal ingredients and colors, the menu reflects a distinctly Japanese aesthetic sensibility.
Shiba Park Hotel is a library hotel built around the concept, “A library hotel that connects people, towns, and history,” and houses approximately 2,000 books throughout the property, curated by Ginza Tsutaya Books. While a typical afternoon tea is enjoyed leisurely from a seat in the restaurant, one of the distinctive features of the experience at Shiba Park Hotel is the opportunity to leave your seat during tea time and explore the hotel in search of a book to read. Guests can discover books throughout the property, including in the first-floor Library Lounge, at the Central Grand Staircase with its extensive bookshelves spanning approximately seven meters, in the second-floor foyer “Book & Culture,” and on the bookshelves inside The Dining.
The diverse collection covers topics including Japanese culture, Tokyo’s history from the Edo period to the present day, architecture, art, photography, and travel. Offering something to enjoy beyond language barriers, the books can inspire curiosity about places yet to be visited or provide an opportunity to reflect on the day’s travels.
For its tea selection, the hotel offers “Art of Tea,” featuring carefully blended organic tea leaves and botanicals. With a 150-minute free-flow tea service, guests can choose different aromas to complement their meal, reading, or mood, creating a peaceful opportunity to regain their own pace amid a busy day of sightseeing.
The experience also includes sugar confections created by Komaya, a long-established confectionery shop with a 270-year history. In Japan, there was once a tradition of presenting sugar confections shaped like sea bream, an auspicious symbol, at celebrations. Komaya’s sugar confections carry this cultural tradition into the present day, with each piece embodying a sense of history and storytelling. Through these small confections, guests can experience a glimpse of Japan’s history and spirit of hospitality.
“Blissful Afternoon Tea” is ideal for spending a quiet moment immersed in a book alone, or for sharing discoveries from Tokyo with friends and family. It can also be enjoyed after arriving at the hotel, before departure, or on a rainy day. Reservations are accepted until 5:00 p.m. the day before, allowing guests to add the experience to their itinerary even after arriving at the hotel. Guests are invited to enjoy a fulfilling afternoon where food and books come together in an experience unique to Shiba Park Hotel.
Shiba Park Hotel’s “Blissful Afternoon Tea” was featured on the official MICHELIN Guide website in its selection of six luxury hotel afternoon teas to enjoy in Tokyo.
