New partnership connects active forest management and wildlife abundance with the conservation, food security, and societal benefits of sustainable wild harvest

ST. JOHN’S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR, CANADA, November 3, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Conservation Visions and the Ruffed Grouse Society & American Woodcock Society (RGS & AWS) have entered into a new conservation partnership aimed at strengthening the connections between healthy forests, abundant wildlife, sustainable hunting, and the benefits that well-managed natural landscapes provide to society.

The collaboration brings together RGS & AWS’ expertise in forest habitat restoration and wildlife management with Conservation Visions’ international leadership in conservation science, community-building, sustainable use, and research. Together, the organizations will demonstrate how investments in forest health and wildlife habitat deliver benefits extending well beyond individual species, supporting biodiversity, food security, rural communities, and enduring public support for conservation.

At the heart of the partnership is Conservation Visions’ Wild Harvest Initiative® (WHI), a first-of-its-kind research and communications program examining the economic, social, and ecological significance of wild food harvesting. The collaboration will create opportunities to build on WHI’s research by incorporating RGS & AWS’ expertise in forest habitat management, strengthening the evidence available to demonstrate the broader conservation and societal benefits of sustainable wildlife use.

“Wildlife abundance is one of conservation’s greatest achievements, but we have not always done enough to explain what makes that abundance possible or what it means for society,” said Conservation Visions President Shane Mahoney. “This partnership is an opportunity to demonstrate that conserving wildlife and sustaining the benefits people derive from it are not competing ambitions. They are mutually reinforcing responsibilities.”

“The capacity of our forests to provide their many values to society hinges on our ability to take care of them over the long run,” said RGS & AWS Vice President of Conservation Karl Malcolm. “This collaboration will help us and the broader conservation community communicate and engage at the intersections of active habitat stewardship, enhanced wildlife outcomes, ecological resilience, and the diverse benefits people derive from the land. These concepts are at the heart of our mission at RGS & AWS, and we’re thrilled to partner with the talented team at Conservation Visions to advance thinking and action in support of healthy forests.”
